Why Study Economics?
Economics is the study of how humans find solutions to various life problems in order to help humans both individually and in society to improve their welfare. Various companies and institutions at the national and global level employ economists to help design business models, analyze data, and design policies.
In the EP Study Program (Prodi), students will hone their skills in studying theories and analytical tools to study various social and economic problems. The Development Economics Study Program provides graduates with an analytical framework to understand various fields. This makes the study of economics in the EP Study Program able to accommodate various student interests and can also produce a variety of interesting and challenging career choices. Although many graduates go on to work in finance, banking or government, graduates of the EP Study Program have more potential career paths for future graduates.
About UNAIR EP.
This study program is one of the best Development Economics study programs in Indonesia with 70 percent of Lecturers holding Doctoral/Ph.D. UNAIR EP Study Program has received national certification A accreditation from the National Accreditation Board for Higher Education (BAN-PT) and two international certifications namely The Alliance on Business Education and Scholarships for Tomorrow (ABEST21) and ASEAN University Network (AUN). In supporting the implementation of an independent campus, EP UNAIR has joined the SASRABAHU, PERMATA MERDEKA, and BI Institute programs as a forum for independent students to study outside study programs and outside universities. Not only activities on a local, regional and national scale, in the last five years, the S1 Development Economics study program has also actively encouraged students to do outbound student and participate in international competitions. Since 2016, there have been around 119 students sent abroad. The Department of Economics also seeks to encourage students' exposure to the global world. Therefore, the department through the Faculty of Economics and Business also has several partnerships with 15 foreign universities, namely University of Western Australia, University College of Bahrain, Avans Hogeschool, Rotterdam University, The Global University of Islamic Finance, Cheng Kung University, Technical University Malaysia Melaka, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, Griffith University, Lincoln University, Saxion University, Fontys University, Universiti Teknologi Mara, Queensland University of Technology, and Durham University.
The S1 Development Economics Study Program has produced graduates who are excellent, independent, innovative and work professionally both on a national and international scale. Its graduates have been scattered in various institutions such as United Nations Development Program (UNDP), World Bank (WB), Indonesian Institute of Sciences (LIPI), Bank Indonesia, Ministry of Finance, academics, industry practitioners, to become professional bankers. Graduates of the S1 Development Economics Study Program have been active through their roles in various fields ranging from economic analysts, policy makers to entrepreneurs.
OBJECTIVE OF S1 DEVELOPMENT ECONOMICS FEB UNAIR
Purpose of holding S1 Development Economics Study Program are as follows:
- Increasing global competitiveness in teaching and research through the development of innovation and collaboration with various parties at the national and international levels.
- Increasing the quality of study program graduates in accordance with the needs of the job market and the characteristics of modern intellectual society (society 5.0).
- Increased implementation of research work for policy makers and the public.
CURRICULUM S1 DEVELOPMENT ECONOMICS FEB UNAIR
Undergraduate Program in Development Economics (S1 EP) FEB Unair is a type of program full time (8 semesters) which is opened at the beginning of each new school year. The requirements that must be possessed to participate in this program are to pass the test which is carried out through 3 pathways, namely: SNMPTN, SBMPTN, and Mandiri.
The 2021/2022 academic year marks the implementation of Teaching and Learning Activities (KBM) with a new curriculum. Based on specialized firm and family economics that was carried, the FEB UNAIR Development Economics Study Program elaborated student skills through the transformation of -based teaching and learning activities Outcome Based Learning (OBE). Curriculum structure S1 Development Economics Study Program compiled using a serial model, based on projects and case studies by presenting collaboration triple helix (academics, government, and industry), and IDUKA (World of Industry, Business, and World of Work). In order to implement Merdeka Learning – Merdeka Campus, courses are arranged with a scheme in the first year focusing on the basic theories of economics; second year leads to methodology and insight; in the third year students are equipped and strengthened their abilities in the field of research (research); and in the fourth year students are given the right to take courses outside the study program and outside the university. Thus, increasing semesters will show an increase in the competencies possessed by students so that in the end it is hoped that students will have integrated competencies.
The number of credits that students must take to complete the Bachelor's Degree (S-1) program is at least 144 credits. In addition to the 144 credit requirements that must be taken, students are also required to have a minimum grade of C in the following subjects:
- Introduction to Microeconomic Theory
- Introduction to Macroeconomic Theory
- Econometrics I
- Mathematics Economics I
- Statistics I
- Concentration prerequisite courses
Courses are classified into:
- Departmental Compulsory Courses (WD), namely courses that must be followed by all students,
- Compulsory Concentration Courses (WK), namely courses that students must take in a certain concentration of study, and
- Free Choice (PB) courses, which are free courses that can be followed by students of any concentration of study (certain WK courses can be PB courses for other concentrations).
- Elective courses outside the study program and/or outside the university.
Based on the study concentration, the economics curriculum has 5 (five) concentrations, namely:
- Planning & Development Economics,
- Natural Resources and Energy Economics,
- International Economics,
- Public Economy, and
- Monetary Economics.
To take a certain concentration of study, a student is required to take 9 credits of compulsory concentration courses or the equivalent of 3 courses. Concentration courses of study and electives are offered starting in semester 5. In order to improve skills soft skill For students, each course is required to give assignments to students in various forms. Each cover sheet or assignment cover must use statement of authority provided by the department in order to uphold academic ethics.
